What is meant by the term ‘interface’?The Interface, is the over all presentation of your website, colour scheme, layout and interactivity. Think of it as ‘the face’ of your website. What is meant by the term ‘domain’?The domain is the address you type into your Internet browser, it looks something like: www.example.com. This needs to be registered at a central agency; similar to the way you register a company at Companies House. Registering your domain reserves your www.example.com for your use for 1 or 2 years for a flat rate fee. Registering your domain does not mean you What is meant by the term ‘hosting’?Hosting is the company which provides the space on a server to put your website on. The Internet is a global network of large computers called servers. Imagine an office full of computers that are linked together in a network so they can communicate with each other, the internet works in the same way, and hosting is when you by a little bit of space on one of those computers so your site can become part of the internet. Lugz Media provide a very competitive domain registration and hosting plan. We will register and host your website all in one go and you don’t have to worry about a thing, please speak to one of our designers for more information. What is an ‘Internet Browser’?This is the program you open on your Mac or PC that enables you to browse the Internet. Often it is Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari, other people might use MSN explorer or AOL explorer for the same purpose. Lugz Media recommends Firefox as the most stable of Internet browsers and it can be downloaded for free at: www.mozilla.com What is meant by the term ‘Resolution’?Resolution is the dots-per-inch used to create a graphic. This is a non-scalable graphic, which means you cannot increase its size without loosing some of the graphics quality. The best way to think about it is with digital photography. A camera-phone might have a 2 mega-pixel value, and a normal hand-held camera will have a 5 mega-pixel value. If you take a photo on each and print them out at the same size, the 2 mega-pixel image will be of less quality than the 5 mega-pixel image because it is a lower resolution. Does Lugz Media do copy writing?Lugz Media does offer this service, and can be quoted upon request. Copy writing is the textual content used within your web site or print product. When generated properly, copy writing can be an incredibly useful marketing tool, and can serve to sell your products or services. What is a URL?This stands for ‘Uniform Resource Locator’, its a really posh term given to all the gibberish you see in the address bar of your browser that refers to a location on the internet like http://www.lugzmedia.co.uk - this is a URL. |

Juts make sure that the correct forum is selected under the 'categories' tab. How do I upload an image to a forum or my blog? This is a 2 step process using the editor and the 'File Attachments' option. First you need to upload your image, make sure the image is no wider than 750px or the upload will fail. Then click the 'File Attachments' drop down menu and 'browse' to the file you wish to upload on your local hard drive. Once you have found it click the 'Attach' button. This will upload the image, and once it has complete a URL will appear under the 'browse' box. Simply copy the url, an in the editor window you will see a small picture of a tree. Click this and a pop up window will appear paste the URL you copied in the window where is says 'Image URL'. When you click insert your image will appear in the editor. What is meant by the term ‘navigation’?The Navigation system is the menu system that guides the user around the web site. The navigation system is a point of interest on the site, and many people like to experiment with the menu systems design in order to heighten the users encounter with their site. What is meant by the term ‘HTML’?This term stands for “Hyper Text Mark-up Language”, it one of the more basic languages that is used to create a web site. You can often see what HTML looks like buy clicking > View > Page Source, in your Internet browser. What is meant by the term ‘CSS’?This stands for Cascading Style Sheets. This is an extension of HTML, and they work to create a theme that your web site will be based upon. Using CSS makes it easier to make changes to the overall design of your web site, like the colour scheme, or fonts etc What does the term ‘font’ mean?A font is the typographical style used on your job. For example the text written on this page is written in ‘News Gothic MT’. There are two fundamental ways a letter can be written, Serif or Sans Serif. Serif fonts tend to be used for large body’s of printed text, like in novels or newspapers. Sans-Serif fonts tend to look better when viewed on a computer screen. Why Can't I Use A Custom Font on my Website? The reason you cannot use a custom font on your wesite is because fonts are not saved to your website they are saved on your computer. You may notice that when browsing the internet, the same website might have a different font on one computer to the next. This is becuase your browser is receiving instructions on which font on the computer its should use. So, in order to preserve a predictable layout for your site we use generic fonts that we know everyone will have installed. In the code we will specify something like; 'Arial, Verdana, SansSerif' this means 1st choice Arial, 2nd Verdana, and if the user has neither of these choose any Sans Serif font. That will produce a font similar to the one your are reading now. There are a few other styles that we can use, ask your designer for more information. What is meant by the term ‘Flash’?Flash is a program used by designers to create dynamic web sites. This means that the web site uses a different language that can incorporate sound, animation, video and graphics in ways that can make every web site unique.
